ARTIST Statement

I make work that is intimate, imaginative, and socially engaged.

The plays and musicals I create are symbolic landscapes that move between desire and reality, belief and action, cynicism and faith. My design experience informs a strong sense of visual composition. My writing is poetic, rhythmic, and playful. As a director I work choreographically, sculpting attention, movement, and image.

Above all, my work is grounded in curiosity, connection, and co-construction. Theatre-making, research, and learning are all acts of collaborative inquiry. In each, we build on each other’s experiences as part of a shared story. These stories reach us on a deep, unspoken level, offering new ways of understanding ourselves and others. They give voice to our experience and remind us that we are not alone.

We can work with stories by our participation in them - through rehearsal, witnessing, play, conversation, and embodied expression. These tools let us test ideas, discover relationships, and safely explore new possibilities in the dedicated space of imagination.

Artmaking, in this sense, is also a form of worldbuilding. Everything we encounter is designed, and everything is a choice. Recognizing this gives us agency to collectively re-shape meaning and perception. Theatre calls new worlds into being, and these imagined realities can inspire us to think more broadly, understand more deeply, and uncover the beauty and fragility of our lives.
