SCHOOLS

Urban Gateways:
Center for Arts Education

As a teaching artist for Urban Gateways, I plan, implement, and document residencies in drama, theatre, and visual arts. I work with students of all ages, and in multiple content areas.

Pictured at left is an integrated drama and writing residency, during which we explored ideas of teamwork and individuality through movement, shape, and poetry.

Redmoon Theater

Currently teaching 21-week in-school residency at Audubon Elementary, working with two 6th grade social studies classes to develop art and performance around the idea of commitment.

Also served as a Youth Performance leader for the 2011 Youth Spectacle, a large-scale, interactive performance event held in the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum. Mentored a group of diverse youth performers from across Chicago. Worked alongside 16 other apprentice directors and Redmoon staff to shape the performances of 50 young people ages 9-18.

Dream Big Performing Arts Workshop

Instructor for "Broadway Kids" and Improvisation classes at schools in and around Chicago, IL. I write and implement 7-10 week drama and theatre curricula for students, grades K-5.

I collaborate with youth to develop original, 5-minute plays based on songs from popular musicals. Through this, I teach collaboration/teamwork, acting, and playwriting skills.

Haven Middle School

Taught bi-weekly 8th grade drama classes at Haven Middle School, culminating in the development of a site-specific performance event in the main hallway of the school.

Drawing on historical documents, personal narrative, school architecture, and improvised drama, the students created a short performance piece reflecting on their experience of the halls of Haven. Audiences moved from one site to another in this dynamic event, spearheaded by drama teacher Betsy Quinn.
