The Story

A powerful and sensitive contemporary play about a boy and his parents on the day of their separation. Before Jeff can deal with the impending divorce he must face and play out his fears and his fantasies with his best friend, Sandy. Once the unspoken is finally out in the open, the whole family can begin to heal. An emotional yet humorous work by America's most produced playwright for young people. Best suited for grades 4-8.

The Experience

Inviting a Purple Crayon Players touring show into your school gives your students a full theatrical and educational experience. You will experience not only a fully mounted production, but you will also be provided with comprehensive and detailed study guides, a post-show discussion (time permitting), and the option of a pre-show workshop with the cast and crew.

The Tour

Our tour will be available from April 5 - May 26, 2009, Tuesdays and Thursdays between 8 AM and noon. Each performance is approximately 60 minutes long. We charge a fee of $140, which will cover solely our transportation costs ($65) and the fee that we are charged for the rights to the show ($75). These costs are negotiable.

Ideally, we hope to schedule a pre-show educational workshop on a Wednesday, followed by a performance of Doors on Friday. The purpose of the workshop is to engage young audiences more fully during the performance, help students connect with the story and themes on a personal level, and inspire thoughtful post-show responses. Your school may also send us a list of subjects that your students will be studying at the time which can help us to further integrate the production with your school’s individual curriculum.

If you have any questions or concerns, Purple Crayon Players is more than happy to come to a PTA or faculty meeting to discuss the content and methods of the pre-show workshop.
