WHAT IS LE BALLON ROUGE?

Le Ballon Rouge is a Purple Crayon Players Special Project, adapted and devised by Jeff Glass and Trina McGee from the award winning French film by Albert Lamorisse. It tells the story of a young boy and who finds a red balloon near his home in Paris. When his grandmother releases the balloon out the window, the balloon magically floats back to his side and becomes his friend. Together, the two face the many dangers of Parisian schoolboy, including bullies, principals, and silly girls, until one final danger threatens to tear them apart…

As a theatre piece, we’re hoping to bring this heartwarming and magical story to life through the use of movement and ensemble, including using exciting theatrical techniques such as puppetry and maybe even circus.

We’re looking for a highly collaborative and imaginative group of people who are excited to join us as we explore, create, and play!

WHEN DO REHEARSALS START?

Rehearsals for Le Ballon Rouge will begin the week of November 14th; rehearsals will be Sundays-Thursdays throughout the process.

WHEN IS THE PERFORMANCE?

Right now, a concrete date has not been determined. The performance will be the weekend of January 13th, January 20th, OR January 27th, depending on cast conflicts and space restrictions.

***If you have a conflict for one of those weekends, please still audition! Just be sure to put that conflict on your audition form***

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING TO AUDITIONS?

For auditions, please just come in movement clothes, warmed up and ready to play! There will be no monologues for this audition. If you have a special skill that requires props that you would like to show us (for example: juggling), please feel free to bring that as well.

We will also have audition forms to fill out at auditions, but if you would like to bring a copy of a resume, you are more than welcome to!
