Jacob Watson is an interdisciplinary theatre artist living in Chicago, IL. He recently graduated with a B.A. in Theatre from Northwestern University, with an emphasis on directing, design, and theatre for education.

Jacob currently teaches drama and visual art in the Chicago schools and parks through Albany Park Theatre Project, Redmoon, and Dream Big Performing Arts Workshop. When he is not in the classroom, Jacob works as the Arts Education Consultant at Creative Directions, where he facilitates programs to integrate the arts into schools. Soon, he will begin touring as an actor with For Youth Inquiry, a collective of artists, educators, and activists commited to fostering safe, accesible conversations about sexual health through participatory theatre.

He also serves as an Illinois State Representative for the American Alliance for Theatre & Education (AATE), for which he has led workshops on devising with youth and utilizing new media in work with young audiences. His article on developing and directing new plays for young audiences was recently published in AATE’s Incite/Insight magazine. Previously, Jacob has worked in the education departments at the Goodman Theatre and Underground Railway Theatre in Cambridge, MA. From 2010 - 2011, he was the Artistic Director of Purple Crayon Players, a student-run performance and community service organization, which received the 2010 Winifred Ward Outstanding New Children’s Theatre Company award.

Recent directing credits include Six Characters in Search of an Author, selected plays from the Regina Taylor Project, and See What I Wanna See (Northwestern). Recent design projects include Luna, Buried Child, Touch, Kiss of the Spider Woman, The Pillowman (Northwestern), and HappyFoods (The Music Theatre Company).

Upcoming projects include scenic design for Dating Walter Dante at Raven Theatre and props design for We Have Always Lived in the Castle at City Lit.
